How Does COPA Define Health Equity?

How Does COPA Define Health Equity?

At COPA, all team members are committed to providing the highest level of care in a manner that respects diversity and inclusivity with the intent of ensuring an optimal patient experience and achieving better health outcomes for all.

Health Equity is when everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible.

How does COPA define Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)?

Diversity is a variety of personal experiences, values and world views that arise from differences of culture and circumstance. Such differences also include race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, culture, national origin, religious beliefs, age, disability status or political perspective. We value and respect our collective similarities and differences.

Equity is when everyone has fair and just opportunities to achieve equitable outcomes inclusive of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, culture, national origin, religious beliefs, or disability status.

Inclusion is when everyone feels welcomed, engaged, and valued.

How is COPA making a difference in the community regarding DEI?

  • We’ve implemented equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-bias training for providers, executives, and managers.
  • We are recruiting, training, and promoting a diverse workforce.
  • We are expanding services in areas of higher need to ensure equitable care to diverse populations.
  • We know there are many more projects ahead of us and these are just the tip of the iceberg, but we’re excited to start the work and aim for a brighter, more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for our clinics and our community.

COPA prominently displays the following statement of values in every clinic location:

We respect and affirm the individual identity of each member of our community.

We believe that our differences in backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences allow us to uniquely contribute to the world around us in meaningful, valuable ways that enrich our community as a whole.

We welcome every child and family through our doors inclusive of races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, national origin, religious beliefs, or disability status.

We aim to improve the health of our entire community by providing the highest level of care, ensuring the optimal patient and family experience, and improving health outcomes for all children in our region.

We advocate at the local, state, and federal levels to promote equitable access to health care and improve the lives of community members.

We will continuously work towards a brighter, more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for our clinics and our community.
